Despite being the holiday season, it’s been an awful time at work. It’s almost like, where has December gone??
It’s a popular misconception that life in the public sector is better; my private sector friends are enjoying the merry-making season while their bosses are away, and getting their ‘eve of public holidays’ off-days, while I’m perpetually stuck in office :( and ‘on call’ on Christmas AND New Year’s.
It’s no fun turning on your laptop on Christmas Day at your boss’s request, and seeing 20 emails coming in overnight – how many poor civil servants were at their work laptops on Christmas eve?!
Definitely not nice to have to receive a work SMS from the boss, even (or perhaps, especially) if it begins with ‘Happy New Year’.
In any case, no point whining without action. Here’s to a better year ahead! :)
